Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening
Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village, though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.
My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.
He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.
The woods are lovely, dark, and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.
His house is in the village, though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.
My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.
He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.
The woods are lovely, dark, and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.
- by Robert Frost
This is a beautiful poem and very meaningful too...but the last four lines are especially close to my heart...!! I am so hooked to these lines - my favorite quote for a long time now...!! I am not sure where and when I read these for the first time but ever since... I have absolutely loved these lines...!!
Robert Frost is a great poet and he has beautifully captured the true meaning of life in just the four lines... simple yet superb... really brilliant!!
Yes... life is a travel... through and through... ever continuing... never stopping...!! Isn’t this ‘continuity’ the very soul of living...??
